    Influence of American Institutions on Information Systems (IS) Research within Asia

    As the world continues to globalize, business and academia have begun to take a different form of response to these changes. No longer are researchers restricted to localized education or publication outlets. Journals publications, methods used, and topics researched are heavily influenced by the training researchers receive during their doctoral program. Research conducted in Asia has displayed a strong influence from western culture resulting from top researchers at business schools in Asia obtaining their terminal degrees in the North America. However, Asian research appears entangled between developing theory in local context and international requirements for publication. The current research evaluates the educational background influencing top researchers throughout Asia. A discussion of the implications due to Western influence on Asia is provided along with recommendations for knowledge sharing and increasing diversity among from a multinational and global perspective.     An Empirical Study on User Satisfaction with Mobile Business Applications Use and Hedonism

    Numerous recent information systems (IS), such as instant messaging and mobile applications, are first developed within an individual context and then widely used in both individual and organizational contexts. The present study examines a recent IS, mobile business (m-business) applications, used within organizations and reports the impact of the usersā€™ pleasurable emotions or feelings on usersā€™ satisfaction with IS. The result from the sample survey and an existential phenomenology indicates that hedonism is a significant determinant of satisfaction with m-business applications. By providing insight into how and why individuals are satisfied or dissatisfied with m-business applications in addition to what leads to this, the authors hope the findings of this study will assist researchers and practitioners in finding major barriers to the mobile business application use in order to design better applications for improved user satisfaction

    The Looming Bandwidth Crunchā€”Legitimate Crisis, or Cyberspace Chicken Little?

    Global Internet usage has fueled much of the technological innovation seen during the first decade of the twenty-first century. Unsurprisingly, this has led to a commensurate increase in consumption of bandwidth, the measure of how much information the Internet can transmit. However, bandwidth is not an inexhaustible resource. Wired communications require physical infrastructure, requiring considerable investment and construction to expand, and wireless communications require sections of electromagnetic spectrum, which has grown much more crowded. This article examines the current bandwidth situation in light of networking trends and events as of 2010. Findings indicate that, although there is no immediate bandwidth crisis, one may eventually come, especially in the wireless spectrum, and, although technological innovation may provide a considerable hedge against the crippling impli-cations of such a shortage, care must be taken to manage growth in bandwidth usage to maintain it at acceptable levels while accounting for the needs of all concerned parties

    Ubiquitous Tour Information: the Relationships between Service Quality, Perceived Enjoyment, and Behavioral Intention

    This study explored the service quality of ubiquitous mobile tour information, which has been emerging as a new solution in its integration with providing tour information services. with advancement of mobile technologies. The study also expanded on the effect of userā€™s perceived quality on enjoyment and usage intention. The demonstrative analysis result, from usersā€™ firsthand interaction with the mobile tour information, led to classifications of ubiquitous tour information service quality; the classifications of four factors consisted of: ā€˜performanceā€™, ā€˜informationā€™, ā€˜designā€™, and ā€˜convenienceā€™. While the designā€™ and ā€˜convenienceā€™ factors did not have a significant impact, the ā€˜performanceā€™ and ā€˜informationā€™ factors had a significant impact on perceived enjoyment. The aforementioned four factors of service quality were proven to have impact on usage intention. Out of the four factors, ā€˜performanceā€™ proved to have the highest impact on usage intention. Managerial implications based on the results are discussed
